I love ikebana and want everyone to be able to enjoy the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging. But depending on where you live, you may not be able to take lessons with a certified teacher. Sometimes you can find books on ikebana in your local library or look at pictures on the Internet. But, there is only so much you can learn from reading and looking at pictures that are flat.

I want to help you on your ikebana journey, so I have created the first Internet Ikebana Lessons that follow the official curriculum of the Ohara School of Ikebana. These videos can be watched from the comfort of your own home. Each month you will receive a new video that uses different materials and different containers – all are examples of what you can do. Because I follow the official curriculum of the Ohara School of Ikebana, some of the lessons are repeated several times, helping you to fully understand the different styles and forms.

I use easy to understand step-by-step instructions that will enable you to create a piece of living art no matter where you live. I will help guide you through the lessons and tell you the reasoning behind the cuts and placements of the different stems within the arrangement. By following along, you, too, can create something beautiful to add to the space in which you live. You can create an authentic ikebana arrangement.

The videos can be accessed through the site or on Vimeo. You can watch them as many times as you would like to gain a deeper understanding of the aesthetic of ikebana. (Sorry, but you won’t be able to download them.) With repeated practice, you will start to understand the rules and guidelines of the different forms and styles that are presented in the videos.

Watching the process and following along will give you a greater understanding than books and pictures alone can convey. You can see the careful and thoughtful way each arrangement is made, the way materials are placed in the container, see and understand the importance of each stem that is placed in the arrangement, and understand the “why.”

I am also happy to check your arrangements once you are finished. Please feel free to send pictures, and I will give feedback and suggestions on your beautiful arrangement. This is unique to the website and is greatly beneficial in your ikebana journey.

The monthly subscription is $24.95 and includes one video a month.
